If water is running and you cannot stop it, shut off the water first and call second. This page tells you where the valves are, what counts as a real emergency, and what to have ready so the call is short.

Most fixtures have their own shut off valve within a few feet: under a sink, behind a toilet, or on the cold inlet at the top of a water heater. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
If the fixture valve will not close, or the leak is not at a fixture, use the main house shut off. In valley homes it is commonly in the garage near the water heater, on an exterior wall, or in a box at the front of the property near the street.
If water is near electrical outlets, a panel or an appliance, do not stand in it. Shut power to that area at the breaker if it is safe to reach, and stay out of the room.
A slow drip, one slow drain, a running toilet, or no hot water in a household that can wait until morning. These need fixing and they do not need a middle of the night visit. Booking them as a normal call usually costs less.
If you smell gas, do not investigate it, do not use switches and do not call us first. Get everyone out of the building, then call the gas utility and 911 from outside. We will happily do gas work afterwards, once the immediate hazard is handled by the people whose job that is.
