Drain cleaning in Las Vegas and Clark County

Drain cleaning that clears the cause, not just the clog

Cabling, jetting and camera work. The method depends on what is in the pipe, which is why we look before we quote.

  • Diagnosis before a price

The short answer

Drain cleaning is three different jobs. Cabling cuts a path through a blockage, hydro jetting scours the pipe wall clean, and a camera tells you which one you need. Picking the method before looking is how the same drain gets cleared four times in a year.

What your drains are telling you

Where the problem shows up matters more than how bad it is. Run through this list before you call, because it changes what we bring.

  • One fixture slow and everything else fine, which is a local blockage near that fixture
  • Several fixtures slow at once, which points further down the system
  • Gurgling from a different drain when you run water or flush, which means air is being pushed past a partial blockage
  • A toilet that rises then drains slowly while a nearby shower backs up, which is a main line symptom
  • Smell coming back up a drain that is used regularly
  • The same drain blocking every few months, which means the cause was never removed
The two minute test that tells us most

Run the kitchen tap and watch the nearest floor or shower drain. Then flush a toilet and watch the same one. If water rises somewhere you did not run, the blockage is shared between fixtures and it is a main line job, not a sink job. Tell us that on the call and the right van arrives.

The three methods, and when each is right

Any plumber who only offers one of these will recommend that one.

Drain clearing methods compared
MethodWhat it is for and what it will not do
Cabling, also called snakingA rotating cable that cuts or pulls a path through a blockage. Fast, effective on most soft blockages and on roots. It opens a hole through the obstruction rather than cleaning the pipe wall.
Hydro jettingHigh pressure water that scours the inside of the pipe. The right answer for grease, sludge and scale, because it removes the cause rather than punching through it. Needs pipe in sound condition.
Camera inspectionNot a clearing method. It is how you find out which of the above you need, whether there is a structural problem, and whether the pipe can take a jetter.
Enzyme and biological treatmentSlow, preventative, useful for maintaining a grease prone line. It is not a fix for a blocked drain today.
Chemical drain productsNot something we recommend. They can damage older pipe, they often do not reach the actual blockage, and the caustic water then sits there for whoever opens the line.
Locating and excavationWhere the camera shows a break, a belly or root intrusion, the pipe is the problem and clearing it is temporary. That moves the job to the sewer line page.

How it works

How a drain call goes

  1. Tell us the pattern, not just the fixture

One drain or several, and whether anything gurgles elsewhere. That decides whether this is a fixture job or a main line job.

    On the call
  2. Access and clear

We work through the proper access point, a cleanout where there is one, rather than pulling a toilet if it can be avoided.

    On site
  3. Prove the line runs

Water put through it under load, not a single flush. A line that takes one flush and blocks on the second was not cleared.

    Same visit
  4. Say why it blocked

If a camera is warranted because this keeps happening, you get told. If the cause was a one off, you get told that too rather than sold an inspection.

    Before we leave

A drain that blocks repeatedly does not have a drain cleaning problem, it has a pipe problem. Clearing it again without looking is the expensive way to find that out.

What it costs

What decides the price of drain cleaning

No rate or range for this work is published anywhere on this site, because none has been confirmed for publication for this business. What follows is the honest version: what actually moves the number on a job like this, so you can read any quote and judge it.

What you get from the call

Describe what is happening and you will hear what it usually means, what the repair involves and what somebody needs to see before quoting it. That happens whether or not you book the work.

What moves the number on this job

  • Access. The same repair costs very different amounts behind a cabinet, inside a wall, under a slab or four feet down in a yard. Access is usually the largest single variable.
  • Repair or replace. A cartridge is a part. A failed tank, exhausted softener resin or brittle polybutylene is a replacement, and no amount of repair spend fixes those.
  • Parts, and whether they still exist. A common cartridge is cheap and on the van. A control head for a discontinued softener is neither.
  • Permit and inspection, where the work needs them. A water heater replacement, a repipe and sewer work are permitted and inspected in this valley. That is real time and real cost, and work done without it turns up later in a buyer inspection.
  • Diagnosis time. Finding a hidden leak is a separate skill from fixing it, and on a slab leak the locating is most of the job. Paying for it is cheaper than exploratory demolition.

What to ask whoever quotes you

  • Which of the five things above is driving this number.
  • Is this a repair or a replacement, and what made you choose.
  • Does the price include the permit and the inspection, where the work needs one.
  • What is your Nevada contractor licence number. Plumbing is classification C-1, Plumbing and Heating, and the Nevada State Contractors Board register lets you check any licence in about a minute. Ask us the same question.

What people ask about drain cleaning

Why did my drain block again two months later?

Because cabling opened a path through the blockage and the cause stayed in the pipe. Grease, scale and root intrusion all come back on a predictable schedule. That is the argument for jetting or for a camera, depending on what is in there.

Do I need a camera inspection every time?

No. A first time single fixture clog usually does not justify one. A repeat blockage, a main line backup, or a house you are about to buy does, because then you are making a decision about the pipe rather than about today.

Is hydro jetting safe for old pipe?

Not always, and that is exactly why the camera comes first. Sound pipe takes jetting well. Deteriorated clay, old cast iron or compromised polybutylene may not, and pressure testing a fragile line by jetting it is how a blocked drain becomes an excavation.

We have no reviews to show you yet, so here is verifiable fact instead

A new site with a wall of glowing testimonials should make you suspicious, and this one does not have them because no review corpus has been verified for this brand. Rather than fill the space with invented quotes, these are three things about your water and your county that you can check against the agency that published them.

Your water is 291 ppm, and that is not our opinion

The Las Vegas Valley Water District publishes valley tap water at 291 parts per million, 17 grains per gallon, and categorises it as very hard. It is the reason fixtures and water heaters here do not last as long as the box promised.

Read the water district page

Softening is a preference, not a health need

The Southern Nevada Water Authority states that removing calcium and magnesium softens water but is not a necessity to protect your health. Any company telling you otherwise is contradicting the agency that tests your supply.

Read the water authority page

Nevada plumbing is licensed as C-1

Plumbing and Heating, issued by the Nevada State Contractors Board under chapter 624. You can check any contractor licence on their register in about a minute, and you should, before work starts.

Photography note

These are illustrations and diagrams, not photographs of our work. No job photography, before and after pair, van, uniform or team photograph appears anywhere on this site, because we do not have verified photographs of this company work yet and generating them would fabricate evidence about a real business. Real job photography is on the list to add.

Calling about Drain cleaning? Say that first and we can skip straight to the questions that matter for it. Something else? Look through what else we cover.

  • Where you areThe address, and a cross street if the address is new or hard to find. Which end of the valley you are on decides who is closest.
  • What is happening, in your own wordsNo plumbing vocabulary needed. "Water under the sink since this morning" is a better description than a guess at the cause.
  • Whether water is running right nowThis is the question that changes everything else. If it is, say so first and we will talk you to the shutoff before anything else.
  • What you have already triedPlunged it, reset the disposal, flipped the breaker, ran the softener through a regeneration. It saves repeating the steps that did not work.
  • Whether you own or rentA landlord or an HOA sometimes has to authorise the work, and it is better to find that out on the phone than at the door.

Water pouring right now? Do not read the rest of this. Call (725) 255-9011 and shut off the supply while it rings.

Drain cleaning questions

What is the difference between snaking and hydro jetting?

Snaking, or cabling, drives a rotating cable through the blockage to open a path. Hydro jetting uses high pressure water to scour the pipe wall clean. Snaking is faster and works on most blockages; jetting removes the cause and is the better answer for grease and scale, but it needs the pipe to be sound.

Can I use a chemical drain cleaner first?

We would rather you did not. They frequently fail to reach the actual blockage, they can damage older pipe, and they leave caustic water sitting in the line for whoever opens it next. If you already have, tell us on the call so we know what is in there.

How do I know if it is my line or the city main?

If every drain in the house is affected at once, including the lowest fixture, the problem is in the shared line rather than one fixture. Where responsibility sits between your property and the street depends on the jurisdiction, and our sewer line page covers that.

Will you need to pull a toilet?

Only if there is no better access. A proper cleanout is the preferred route. Where a toilet has to come up, it gets reset properly with a new seal, not sat back down on the old one.

How long does drain cleaning take?

A single accessible fixture clog is often well under an hour. A main line blockage takes longer, and if the camera shows a structural problem the conversation changes from clearing to repair.
