The short answer

A camera down the line turns guesses into evidence. It is the cheapest hour on this website, because it is the difference between a targeted spot repair and an excavation someone talked you into.

When an inspection pays for itself

These are the moments where not looking costs more than looking.

  • Before buying a house, especially one built before the mid 1990s
  • A drain that has blocked more than once in a year
  • Before authorising any excavation, so the dig is targeted
  • Before hydro jetting, to confirm the pipe can take the pressure
  • After roots come out on a cable, to find the opening they came through
  • When a plumber has quoted a full sewer replacement and you want the evidence
  • After ground movement, new construction nearby, or a large tree removal
The house buying case

A standard home inspection does not usually include a sewer camera. On valley homes of a certain age the sewer lateral is the single most expensive thing a buyer can inherit unknowingly, and it is invisible from inside the house. This is the one inspection we would push a buyer not to skip.

What the inspection produces

An inspection that leaves you with nothing to look at afterwards is half a job.

What a sewer camera inspection should give you
DeliverableWhy it matters
Video of the full accessible runThe evidence. You keep it, and you can show it to a second plumber for a second opinion.
Located defectsDistance from a known access point, so any excavation goes to the right spot first time.
Pipe material and conditionClay, cast iron, ABS, PVC or something from a bad era. This decides what repair methods are even available.
Roots, bellies, offsets, cracksNamed and located rather than summarised as a problem.
Whether jetting is safeThe go or no go call on high pressure water, made from the pipe condition.
A plain language summaryWhat it means, what is urgent, what can wait and what needs no action. Plenty of reports skip the last category.

How it works

How the inspection runs

  1. Find access

A proper cleanout is the ideal entry. Where there is not one, we discuss options first, including whether installing a cleanout is worth doing while we are there.

    On arrival
  2. Run the camera

The full accessible length, recorded. Where flow obscures the view, the line may need a light clearing pass first to make the footage meaningful.

    Main work
  3. Locate and measure

Anything found is located and the distance recorded, which is what makes a targeted repair possible.

    Same visit
  4. Walk you through the footage

On screen, with what each thing is and how urgent it is. Including the honest verdict when the line is simply fine.

    Before we leave

Ask for the footage in writing before you book any inspection, with anyone. If a company will not hand over the video, you cannot get a second opinion on the most expensive repair in residential plumbing.

What it costs

What decides the price of sewer camera inspection

No rate or range for this work is published anywhere on this site, because none has been confirmed for publication for this business. What follows is the honest version: what actually moves the number on a job like this, so you can read any quote and judge it.

What you get from the call

Describe what is happening and you will hear what it usually means, what the repair involves and what somebody needs to see before quoting it. That happens whether or not you book the work.

What moves the number on this job

  • Access. The same repair costs very different amounts behind a cabinet, inside a wall, under a slab or four feet down in a yard. Access is usually the largest single variable.
  • Repair or replace. A cartridge is a part. A failed tank, exhausted softener resin or brittle polybutylene is a replacement, and no amount of repair spend fixes those.
  • Parts, and whether they still exist. A common cartridge is cheap and on the van. A control head for a discontinued softener is neither.
  • Permit and inspection, where the work needs them. A water heater replacement, a repipe and sewer work are permitted and inspected in this valley. That is real time and real cost, and work done without it turns up later in a buyer inspection.
  • Diagnosis time. Finding a hidden leak is a separate skill from fixing it, and on a slab leak the locating is most of the job. Paying for it is cheaper than exploratory demolition.

What to ask whoever quotes you

  • Which of the five things above is driving this number.
  • Is this a repair or a replacement, and what made you choose.
  • Does the price include the permit and the inspection, where the work needs one.
  • What is your Nevada contractor licence number. Plumbing is classification C-1, Plumbing and Heating, and the Nevada State Contractors Board register lets you check any licence in about a minute. Ask us the same question.

What people ask before booking one

Is a sewer inspection really worth it when buying?

On an older valley home, it is the highest value inspection for the money that a buyer can add. The lateral is expensive, invisible and usually excluded from a general home inspection. Finding a problem before closing changes who pays for it.

Can you inspect if there is no cleanout?

Sometimes, through another access point, though the view and reach are more limited. Where there is genuinely no access, installing a cleanout is worth considering on its own merits: it makes every future drain call cheaper.

Will the camera find a leak in my water line?

No. A sewer camera works inside drain lines. Finding a pressurised water leak is a different discipline with different equipment, and that is our leak detection page.

Checkable, not claimed

We have no reviews to show you yet, so here is verifiable fact instead

A new site with a wall of glowing testimonials should make you suspicious, and this one does not have them because no review corpus has been verified for this brand. Rather than fill the space with invented quotes, these are three things about your water and your county that you can check against the agency that published them.

Your water is 291 ppm, and that is not our opinion

The Las Vegas Valley Water District publishes valley tap water at 291 parts per million, 17 grains per gallon, and categorises it as very hard. It is the reason fixtures and water heaters here do not last as long as the box promised.

Read the water district page

Softening is a preference, not a health need

The Southern Nevada Water Authority states that removing calcium and magnesium softens water but is not a necessity to protect your health. Any company telling you otherwise is contradicting the agency that tests your supply.

Photography note

These are illustrations and diagrams, not photographs of our work. No job photography, before and after pair, van, uniform or team photograph appears anywhere on this site, because we do not have verified photographs of this company work yet and generating them would fabricate evidence about a real business. Real job photography is on the list to add.

  • What is happening, in your own wordsNo plumbing vocabulary needed. "Water under the sink since this morning" is a better description than a guess at the cause.
  • Whether water is running right nowThis is the question that changes everything else. If it is, say so first and we will talk you to the shutoff before anything else.
  • What you have already triedPlunged it, reset the disposal, flipped the breaker, ran the softener through a regeneration. It saves repeating the steps that did not work.
  • Whether you own or rentA landlord or an HOA sometimes has to authorise the work, and it is better to find that out on the phone than at the door.

Sewer camera inspection questions

What can a sewer camera actually see?

Pipe material, the condition of the wall, cracks, offset joints, bellies that hold water, root intrusion, foreign objects and collapses. It also shows what is not wrong, which is the part that saves people money.

Do I get a copy of the video?

Yes. You keep the footage and the located findings. That is what lets you get a second quote on the same evidence instead of on someone else description of it.

Should I get a sewer inspection before buying a house in Las Vegas?

On any home built before the mid 1990s we would say yes, and on newer homes it is still cheap insurance. Standard home inspections do not normally include it, and the sewer lateral is the most expensive hidden system a buyer takes on.

How long does a camera inspection take?

Typically well under an hour where a cleanout is accessible and the line is reasonably clear. Lines that need a clearing pass first take longer, because footage through standing water shows nothing useful.

Is an inspection needed before hydro jetting?

We treat it as necessary on any line we do not already know. Jetting fragile pipe can turn a blockage into a break, and the camera is how that risk gets assessed instead of discovered.
